This is a list-in-progress of the personal names in the Arkansas Territorial Courts documents. Most names are arranged alphabetically by surname (last name). Persons with no known surnames, such as slaves and Native Americans, are listed by first name only. Following each name are links to the cases in which they appear, and the dates of the cases, together with a brief explanation of the person's connection to the case. At present, there are almost 2,000 names in this data base. Case names that are not active hyperlinks at present will be linked as those cases are brought on line.

Not much is known about some of these people. We hope that their presence in this data base will aid researchers who are interested in them. Others were some of the most prominent persons in territorial Arkansas. For those persons, and for lawyers, following the case links, we have summarized some of the most pertinent information about them. However, just because no information appears after a name, do not assume that it does not exist. For those interested in researching further, see the list of entries in Sources. A few of the sources are listed here by author's name or shortened title; complete bibliographic references for them are in the Sources section.

Spelling of names, particularly French names, can vary wildly. We have provided all spelling variations that appear in this data base. When possible we used the form in the person's own signature as the preferred form. If you are using a search engine to search for names, we recommend that you scroll through this list.
